Roy Oswalt saw an out and took it.

Presented with a potential trade to the Phillies, Oswalt waived his no-trade clause Thursday, clearing the way for the Astros to send him to Philadelphia in exchange for pitcher J.A. Happ and two prospects, center fielder Anthony Gose and shortstop Jonathan Villar.

The Astros traded Gose to the Blue Jays for first base prospect Brett Wallace.

Oswalt, 32, leaves the Astros as one of the club’s all-time great pitchers and one win short of tying Joe Niekro’s club record for wins. He was to go for the record-tying win Friday against the Brewers. Instead Oswalt will debut with the Phillies at Washington.

“It’s tough to leave Houston,” Oswalt told the Houston Chronicle, “but I’m going to a good situation.”

It's certainly too soon to know how much hitting coach Jeff Bagwell can help improve the Houston Astros offense. He already appears to be having an affect on Carlos Lee. Lee hit two home runs, including the go-ahead homer in the sixth inning, and the Astros went on to an 8-1 win over the Chicago Cubs.

Brett Myers has pitched so well all season that Houston Astros manager Brad Mills couldn't say if the right-hander's complete game Tuesday night was his best work of the year. Lance Berkman hit his first grand slam since 2008 to back Myers and the Astros beat the Chicago Cubs 6-1. It is the 10th career complete game for Myers (8-6) and his first since May.

The Houston Astros have claimed infielder Anderson Hernandez and right-hander Nelson Figueroa off waivers. Left-hander Polin Trinidad and right-hander Gary Majewski were designated for assignment Wednesday to make room on the roster. After a 4-3 win over the Cubs on Wednesday, the Astros also optioned infielder Oswaldo Navarro to Triple-A Round Rock.

The Houston Astros have called up Wesley Wright from Triple-A Round Rock and the left-hander was scheduled to make his first major league start against the Chicago Cubs. Wright was 4-0 with a 4.18 ERA in 13 starts for Round Rock. He had no record and a 5.59 ERA in six relief appearances with the Astros earlier this season.
